Don’t Stock Up Your Shelves

By Brian Cannone
When you are on your journey to losing weight and eating properly, there are a few minor details that can potentially derail you on your quest that you aren’t even aware of! You have to eat correctly in order to maximize your weight loss! This means that you need to be aware of the foods you are eating and the foods that you are purchasing that can do anything to hinder your goals in the slightest. One major factor that is often overlooked is your pantry. Do not buy a lot of products to fill up the shelves in your pantry with! This is something that has been proven to dampen your weight loss and fitness progress. When you have shelves of temptation, it will soon become harder and harder not to give in to that temptation. When you give in to temptation and you cheat your diet and you cheat your fitness, you will see that you are, in reality, cheating yourself. You want to eliminate anything that can potentially become a roadblock on your journey to becoming the best version of yourself.
When you are purchasing items to fill the shelves in your pantry, you are doing multiple things, none of which are benefiting you! Stocking your shelves with stuff for no reason is tough! Not only is it temptation that you have sitting unnecessarily in your pantry, it is also very hard on your wallet. You want to save money! Eating healthy shouldn’t break the bank or your wallet. When you are stocking your shelves with foods such as cake, cookies, crackers and soda, you are stacking up the odds for defeat! You do not want to put your health and fitness goals at a disadvantage. You will want to avoid stocking up on any items in general that are not healthy. The longer an item of food lasts in your pantry or freezer, the more fat and additives there are that can cause you to gain more weight. You need to keep in mind that the only things you want to keep on your shelves and in your refrigerator are items of a healthy nature.
Another factor that could damage you when it comes to filling up your pantry is the idea of you being the perfect host or hostess. In the back of your mind you are probably thinking that you want to make sure that your guests are well taken care of when they stop through your home. Whether it be your children’s friends, your friends, your brother’s kids, or family you need not to put that much consideration into the items you are purchasing. If they are important people to you, yes, you want to think of them. But remember, you can always pick something up for them. Your health and fitness should be your number one priority! If you do not take care of yourself and your health you will find that it is harder to take care of others. If you want to be the perfect host or hostess you can be! That does not mean that you have to stock your pantry shelves with items that are not crucial to your weight loss and healthy diet!
When you are thinking of being the perfect host or hostess, you most likely consider the factor of an unexpected guest to show up. What will you feed them? What will they drink? Now, because of these questions you have asked of yourself, you have cookies, soda, crackers, cubes of cheese, and frozen finger foods; all of which are not healthy for you and are damaging to your weight loss goals. If you discover that an “unexpected” is going to show up to visit, you can always run to the store to pick something up. This is what is highly recommended, especially when you are in full health and fitness mode. You do not need to stock heavily up on items of food just for the mere anticipation of someone showing up to pay you a visit. If someone does happen to stop by, you could always offer them what you do have! Healthy does not mean unsatisfying! You could easily fix up something for your guests to eat or drink using the items you currently have in your pantry and fridge. If more than a few people are showing up, you are more than likely going to get at least a heads up about their arrival. When this happens you can make a quick run to the grocery or corner store to pick up some foods for your guests!
You need to always keep in mind that you do not want to keep your shelves in your pantry stocked up with “undesirables”. Now, this does not mean foods that aren’t good, this simply refers to the foods that aren’t good for your diet and your fitness goals. If you are always stocked up on foods for the “just in case” guest (or guests) you are not only putting items of food in your way on your healthy journey, you are also put an unnecessary dent in your budget and wallet. You should always be aware of your diet, and your wallet, when you are in the grocery store and when you are buying items for your pantry. Not only are you purchasing items that can cause you to deviate, you are also buying items that are unnecessary. More times than not you are going to be throwing out these items because they have gone to waste. If you have guests that are coming, you will usually know about it ahead of time! Remember, you can always run to the store to buy more food for your guests if you what you have will not suffice!
