Open workout with Tony Horton will kick off one of New England’s largest fitness events.…

WALLINGFORD, CT – FEB 12, 2012 – Fitness trainer Tony Horton, creator of “P90X® Extreme Training System,” will lead an open workout Saturday, April 14, 2012 at the Fitness Atlantic Event in Wallingford, Connecticut.
The Fitness Atlantic is one of the largest fitness events in New England held at the Oakdale Theatre in Wallingford, Connecticut.  This event is open to anyone to enter that wants to get in the best shape of their life and enter a physique and sports modeling contest in different categories competing for professional status and opportunities and exposure.  Participants come from all over the world to compete for the prestigious titles and prizes offered and the opportunity to shoot with some of the most published fitness photographers in the country.

Since 1999, the Fitness Atlantic event provides fitness models a chance to shine! With a consistently sold-out audience, national exposure and production standards designed to make every contestant feel like a star, the Fitness Atlantic show is like no other event in the Nation! “This is certain to be the most personally rewarding event any aspiring fitness model can enter,” said Brian Cannone. Regular people are encouraged to get in the best shape of their lives while winning awesome prizes, and get the opportunities they have been looking for by entering. Spectators cheer for their favorite fitness models while getting inspired by seeing the results of their hard work through proper exercise and nutrition.

Come out and Meet Tony Horton, the master behind the best selling fitness program in America P90X®. Tony helps people get fit all over the world by keeping them motivated in health, physique, and lifestyle. Over the last 18 years Tony has acquired, perfected, and shared his fitness expertise with countless individuals across America. From professional athletes, sports teams, television and major movie stars, recording artists to the average American, Tony has helped people turn their lives around with the perfect mix of encouragement, humor, discipline and fun.

Tony is looking forward to working out, followed by Q&A and lastly an autograph session all while helping participants incorporate more fitness and motivation into their lives. His P90X DVD’s emphasize “muscle confusion,” a method of cross training and periodization achieved through switching the order of exercises and incorporating new and varied movements. Muscle confusion supposedly prevents the body from adapting to exercises over time, resulting in continual improvement without plateaus.

Your “Stage Ready Nutrition and Training” book

Here is an email I received today.

Question: I was interested in purchasing your “Stage Ready Nutrition and Training” book but first wanted to ask you a few questions in hope of some very “real honest answers!” I have hopes of competing and stepping on stage as a bodybuilder one day myself. Currently I’m pretty out of shape, I use to be in the U.S. Navy and in great shape and I also played sports my whole life. I got depressed and fell into a huge slump and packed on the pounds. Any I’m really wanting to get into the best shape of my life and have the physique I’ve always dreamed about, which is that of a bodybuilder on the cover of a magazine with 5% bodyfat. I’m currently about 315 pounds and 30+ percent bodyfat at 5’8″ tall. Do you really think that your book will help me and when I say help me I mean directly and solely change/transform my physique for the better to achieve my goals. Honestly?!! Thank you for taking the time to read and hopefully respond to this message.

Answer:
It would be awesome if you followed the program and stepped on stage!

The guy John Labella was 36% bodyfat when I trained him and got him down to 6% to enter his first show as a master over 40 year old.

How long have you been out of the Navy and how old are you now?

You don’t want to lose more than 2 pounds a week to lose fat correctly – it’s usually 2 pounds per percent fat to drop.

The meal plans are clean foods – Chicken, Turkey, Fish, Eggwhites for protein – Oatmeal and Brown Rice for carbs, low fat and high fiber with lots of vegetables

Any worth while program will have those foods

Eat 6 meals a day and drink a gallon of water and workout and you WILL drop the fat

I keep it basic and simple – easy to follow but it is strict on the types of food.

Say you had to lose 100 pounds to compete – you also want your skin time to tighten up too

That would be what – 50 weeks at least – about a year to accomplish

I’d say 2013 to compete and do well

Don’t just be the guy that lost a bunch of weight and accomplished a weight loss goal – be the guy that lost all that fat and looked amazing regardless the weight loss

I’ve trained a lot of people following this program – it does work but you have to do it slow – don’t jump to the last weeks or cut calories to try and speed it up – it doesn’t work that way.

I’d like to see you accomplish your goal.

- Brian

Muscle Factory

Vince’s Gym was located near Ventura Boulevard which is the home of Universal Studios in CA. Whenever actors needed to get in shape for the movies they were sent directly to pay a visit to Vince.
Although Vince’s gym was extremely popular with famous bodybuilders and movie stars it was a very modest old-fashioned kind of gym. It was established in 1948 and it wasn’t the kind of place you would find music or fancy machines. This was a muscle factory with free weights and hard work.

Vince Gironda Was Considered
the Trainer of Champions

The walls of Vince’s Gym were covered pictures of bodybuilders that had trained there. Perhaps you recognize some of these names?

Numero Uno: Arnold Schwarzenegger

Lou Ferrigno aka The Incredible Hulk

First Mr. Olympia Larry Scott

Jake Steinfeld

Former Mr. Olympia Frank Zane

And The Trainer of The Stars

In addition to being nicknamed the Iron Guru Vince was also called the Trainer of the Stars. Vince would help the studios whip their stars into shape for the movies; he has helped train the likes of Cher, Clint Eastwood, Denzel Washington, James Garner, Brian Keith, Tommy Chong (of Cheech & Chong) and Erik Estrada. It is said that in the late 1960′s, before bodybuilders started to use steroids, Vince’s Gym produced more top physique stars than any other gym in the world. (If you’re wondering, yes some people at Vince’s gym did use steroids even though he didn’t approve of them.)

Vince’s Gym – The Muscle Factory

Stories about Vince and his gym are legendary and in Vince’s gym, you either followed his methods or suffered his wrath.

Once, after Vince had spent several hours coaching an upcoming bodybuilder, he noticed the trainee wasn’t following his instructions. “What the hell are you doing?” he demanded to know.
When the bodybuilder in question said he wanted to “change around a few things,” Vince banished him from the gym! When the man complained that he’d paid for a six-month membership, Vince went to the cash register, took out payment for six months, and threw it at him, shouting, “If you aren’t going to listen to what I say, I don’t want you in here!”. (Musclemag 168 May 1996)

Now that’s my kind of gym! No music, no fancy equipment and no time for people that aren’t serious….
Speaking of serious how would you like to be have Vince Gironda be your coach? Well now is your chance. Click the link below for more information.

Do You Hold Yourself Back?

At one time or another, most of us have measured the quality of our physique and/or training abilities to that of other people. Comparing how good we look or how effectively we train with another person can either propel our efforts off the charts – or bring our progress to a grinding halt.

Is this a healthy approach to take when trying to improve? It could be. If you use someone else’s physical development as a driving force to help you train harder and eat better, it is an effective, empowering approach. That’s pretty obvious.

On the other hand, if seeing another person’s development and/or achievements in the gym discourages you, then you might really have some challenges. Frustration, becoming overwhelmed, and the desire to quit trying so hard could slowly overcome you.

You’ll never live up to your true potential with this crippled mentality. And, when comparing yourself to less-accomplished individuals makes you complacent, you will run into problems as well.

You’ll fall short of what you are truly capable of achieving. You may start settling for less after reaching a certain level just because it’s better than what most of those around you are accomplishing.

The Choice Is Yours…

You see, the choice is yours on how you perceive the people around you. What’s most important is the manner in which you formulate what others do and don’t do in your own head. It’s very interesting how one person can affect another. Just as you probably have, I’ve seen it happen both ways a number of times.

A person who motivates some people can be the very same person who discourages others. This is something you should take the time to think about. Oftentimes, we are not conscious of the affect other people have on our own efforts until a much later time.

Too High Of Standards?

There’s a fine line between holding yourself to high enough standards to make the most out of your abilities and being so tough on yourself that you suffer a mental meltdown.
I’ve witnessed many people who have accomplished a great deal with their bodies. They look great. The only problem is they fail to realize what they have done.

High Standards Or Too Tough?

It Can Be A Fine Line.
One of the biggest tragedies in life is when a person is doing well – but creates so much frustration and discontent along the way because he or she fails to appreciate the success they have earned.

Being Fair To Yourself:

You’re not always being fair to yourself when comparing yourself to others. Everyone is blessed and cursed with different genetic and lifestyle factors.
Nothing in life is necessarily fair. In every area of your life, this works both to your benefit and to your detriment – but never does it happen just one way.

There’s nothing to complain about because you have it better than some others. There’s nothing to get too excited about because there will always be people who are more gifted than you.

The sooner you realize this, the better off you’ll be. Only then will you stop using such comparisons and instead just get to work on becoming the very best you can be.

Don’t Be Too Easy On Yourself:

On the other hand, if you feel using comparisons is helpful to you, be careful not to be too easy on yourself. Sure, you might be doing better than others but you will not be fulfilled until you feel you are honestly living up to your own true potential.
Many people make the mistake of discounting the amount of effort more successful people have invested into their training practices and healthy lifestyle.

That’s very easy to do – and it’s somewhat of a delusional path of least resistance. A person will have an extremely difficult time becoming the best they can be when taking this route.

There’s nothing necessarily wrong with using the other people when creating ambitious goals. But you must honestly assess where you are now compared to where you’d like to eventually be.
More importantly, you must take the time to reflect upon and appreciate where you have evolved from. The chances are great that you are doing a lot better than you realize.

Measure Against Yourself

The truth of the matter, however, is that your success is never defined by how you measure up against others. The battle to become the best you can be will be fought internally with yourself – rather than externally with a war waged on others.

You must strive to become the best compared to yourself. Success is determined by the gap you create from where you began to where you are today. It’s the person who creates the biggest gap between where they started and where they are now with their training efforts that is truly the most successful.

Are You An Inspirational Fitness Story?

Why do people train to get in the best shape of their
lives and jump on stage?

For the motivation of seeing their bodies transform –
mostly – but many athletes think of ways to become
stars and use a contest to promote themselves.

Over the years I have come to know very few athletes in
the fitness industry that knew how to use their experience
as fitness competitors in order to create opportunity for
themselves.

One of those people I became friends with that really
squeezed every last drop of opportunity from winning
a title was 1987 Mr. USA Carlo Bercy.

It has been about ten years since Carlo moved from CT
to Florida and I haven’t seen him around but I do remember
him well. And Carlo made sure EVERYONE knew he was
Mr. USA.

He drove a Mercedes Benz with the license
plate on the front that said Mr USA and he had a jacket
that said Mr USA on the back. And all his gym sweatshirts
said Mr USA on the front and back.

This guy was a master at the art of self-promotion.

And it paid off for him because he had memberships
at every gym in the area and was never charged.

He trained clients at gyms and the owners didn’t take
a penny from him.

He even sold weight belts, gloves, and supplements
to the gym owners for their Pro Shops.

He was always happy to be a special guest poser at
local bodybuilding events if he was paid to do it or
not paid to do it. He would always entertain the crowd
jumping off the stage into the audience and standing on
chairs posing for the crowd.

It was pretty amazing how he ran with that title and used
it to create many business opportunities for himself.

If you ask me who is running with a title today –

I can only think of one guy right now –

This guy – click through to this guy’s video and watch

Inspire Others with your story.

He takes his experience and makes the most of it.

He filmed his entire training and transformation and
is allowing people to follow his plan and inspire
others.

I recommend you check out this video on
Vince Del Monte’s Stage Shredded Status.

If you are a fitness competitor or just thinking
about become a fitness competitor there is a lot
to learn by watching this video.
