Fitness Competitor Janelle Nicolo

Janelle Nicolo I decided to compete because I was inspired by the dedication of the fitness athletes that I always read about in Oxygen and saw on television with the ESPN Fitness America Pageant. I used to dance and enter beauty pageants but once I graduated college in 2004 I needed another goal to strive for so I jumped in by attending Cathy Savage's Fitness Camp in January of 2005. From the moment I stepped into the studio for registration I was embraced by beautiful, amazing women. I was shocked at the kindness, coming from a pageant background and dealing with a lot of backstabbing in some systems it was hard for me to believe that so many women could embrace me right away.

In 2005 I competed in the following: o April 23rd 2005, Ms. Bikini Atlantic (East Haven, CT) - 3rd place figure short, 4th place figure overall o September 24th 2005, NPC Tournament of Champions (Manchester NH) - 4th place fitness o October 22nd 2005, USBF Northeastern Natural - 2nd place open figure, 4th place fitness In 2006 I plan on competing in a lot more including Fitness Atlantic and the FAP Nationals.

The one and only coach Cathy Savage help me get started! I still am being trained by Cathy Savage and Jodi Jones helps with the nutrition. I belong to Beverly Athletic Club, Beverly MA - One of my sponsors.

I am incredibly happy with my physical results and have also seen a huge difference in my attitude and health! I always knew I was a dedicated individual, but I now know that I can accomplish anything- especially saying no. I'm looking forward to no cannolis and chocolate for 3 months while training seeing what else I'm able to achieve!

Janelle NicoloFitness itself has helped me to feel better about myself and kept me constantly striving to be my best at everything that I take on in my life. The women in fitness, specifically Cathy Savage, Jodi Jones, and the Savage Girls, have truly encouraged and inspired me to be my best and believe in myself. Their friendships are true and I now have a group of wonderful women that I know will be in my life forever.

My main goal is to help inspire others to eat healthy and be their best, as well as continue to push myself to the best of my ability!

I'm on a great plan with Cathy Savage and Jodi Jones called SOS (Savage Optimum Services) which consists of all whole foods like lean meats). I don't limit any food from my diet and I eat veggies, fruits and carbs (whole grain only of course, but I make sure that what I eat is always clean! I track my food daily in a journal in order to make sure I eat the proper amount of proteins, carbs, and fats per meal and in order to hit my daily intake which changes regularly close to a show.

Another key to my physique changes have been constantly changing my workout schedule, so my muscle don't get used to the same thing. My sets & reps change per week, and my type of weight/polymeric training changes per month. Close to a show I up my cardio more as well going from 4 days at 45 minutes to 5 or 7 at 45-60 minutes. Depending on how much more my body needs to change to be show ready. I also practice my routine 2-3 times a week for about a half hour each day.

I am a Public Relations Account Executive in the fashion and beauty industry.

I would love to someday own my own dance/fitness studio which incorporates dance and cardio classes among other things, but for now I'm happy networking in the beauty and fashion industries!

I have always been very active participating in both soccer and basketball throughout my High School career, and then lifting weights 5 days a week and choreographing hip-hop routines for the my colleges Dance Theater 2 days a week. However, I wasn't getting where I wanted to be physically. My body was used to the same routine and needed change. I also thought I ate healthy compared to most, but had no idea about a lot of extra additives and such in a lot of foods I was eating regularly that claimed to be "healthy."

I love fashion and often spend my time keeping up on industry trends and celebrity gossip! I also enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking and canoeing, photography and spending time with my friends, family and dog.

Janelle Nicolo I have a genetic disorder called Hemochromatosis (iron overload disease) which currently has no cure but is often mistaken for anemia because of its similar symptoms unless the proper blood tests are done. I by no means have been able to get rid of my disorder, but I have been able to relieve my stomach and digestive problems because of my new healthy diet and lifestyle! I can now say that I have taken control of my health in order to live a stronger, longer life!

It was definitely hard balancing my career, social life and fitness training at first, but now that I have the hang of it all it comes easy because it's my lifestyle now.

I'd like to thank my family and friends for all their support along with my Sponsors J&S Sound, I & G Tailoring, and Beverly Athletic Club!
